I wonder how often the spread of petty tyranny facilitates the development of the larger variety
One of the ominous things about human nature is how easily otherwise normal people adopt the Gestapo mentality on the slightest pretext. Check out this infuriating story about a disabled lady who was just trying to get a straw in a restaurant.

This is what happens when laws threaten service industry employees with jail for handing out straws.
I just have to wonder if this is a bug of the law ... ... or a feature.
