Happy Feet Friday

Trumpet man Fats Navarro was an important figure in the development of Bebop, and here he is with “Oo-Bop Sh'Bam” (1946).

Bonus tune! A short, clever piece by Dave Brubeck called “Unsquare Dance”.

  1. Love Fats Navarro's playing, shame he died so young.

Brubeck made a career out of odd time signatures, also 1st class musicianship. How many like me would say 'Take Five' was the first Jazz tune they liked? My band used to play T5 with guitars and a Ginger Baker beat (same as Blind Faith 'Do What You Like').

Same with me! Before I knew anything about time signatures, I instinctively found the 5/4 time fascinating.

Your version of "Take Five" sounds intriguing.

  3. Fats Navarro, I thought you meant Ana Navarro, that pig.

  4. Jonah: Nah. She blows, but not the trumpet.
