Sorry, boys, you need to check offshore, around the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego

Well, FWIW, a newly elected local state representative held a townhall last winter, to talk about Illinois Dimocrat's proposed gun owner harassment laws. He invited a couple of concealed carry advocates, and the county sheriff and county seat city police chief to speak to us and give us their viewpoints on things related to gun control.

Both the sheriff and police chief assured everyone that if they got orders to go door to door collecting firearms...nope, they wouldn't be following those orders. Someone in the audience spoke up, and said that would probably be the best thing for their health. And the sheriff said that was what he was thinking, too.

Well, that's kind of reassuring. I've read that a lot of law enforcement departments at the local and state levels harbor police chiefs, sheriffs, etc. who feel that way. Not all of them, to be sure, but probably...a sufficiency.

While it's good that some law enforcement won't follow stupid orders (the Nuremberg trials put paid to the "Orders are orders" defense), the culture war may well erase that attitude across the board. God knows there are enough sheriffs and police chiefs out there who are more than happy to use the Constitution for toilet paper.

New Jersey is but one example of this. I'm pretty sure that there are many jack booted thugs in that jurisdiction who welcome the chance to steal personal property.

Most likely what would happen if the government, in a moment of insanity, passed a confiscation law, a whole lot of organizations would rise up and tie the law up in court for decades to keep it from being implemented. Lawfare works both ways.
