SOTU 2020

I only watched the last 45 minutes or so of President Trump's speech, but what I saw and heard, I liked. It was unabashedly a patriotic speech, but it was patriotism in the highest sense, imbued with a genuine love of country. There are some fine observations and hilarious comments in Stephen Green's SOTU drunkblogging exercise. For example, there's this comment in a Tweet by Matthew Betley: "Uh oh. The train inside Nancy’s head is coming off the tracks from all this winning."

I loved the gesture of awarding Rush Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom at this event. Well done, Mr. President (and first Lady Melania Trump, who actually hung the medal on Rush).

Update: Pelosi tearing up Trump's printed speech at the end was probably the only thing that kept her from actually frothing at the mouth and barking at the chandeliers. The White House was quick to respond
“Speaker Pelosi just ripped up:

One of our last surviving Tuskegee Airmen.

The survival of a child born at 21 weeks.

The mourning families of Rocky Jones and Kayla Mueller.

A service member’s reunion with his family.”

Update II: Haw! (H/T: Instapundit).

I was listening on the car radio and missed that part when I was filling up the gas tank. Dammit.

It was pretty damned obvious that Mad Queen Nan has completely lost it when she tore up her copy of the speech ON CAMERA. She has just handed the election to Trump -- as did the rest of the incredibly disrespectful, childish Democrats, especially those who walked out on it. Rather than boycott it like Alexandria Donkey-Chompers, they had to make sure everyone saw them virtue-signalling.

Many of the donks certainly revealed themselves to be Lilliputians of character tonight. And Pelosi tearing up the printed speech! I bet it was only the bottle of wine and some choice Panama Red joints before the SOTU that kept her from reaching over and hitting Trump in the head with that gavel she seems so inordinately fond of.

I switched over to MSLSD after the speech to see what they had to say and even they didn't seem too thrilled with the paper tearing act. They also seemed a bit dazed.

She's crazy cute, even more when she's angry. Those beady eyes trying to drill into the back of Trump's head are the funniest new thing I've seen. Of course his bronze hair reflects laser beams, which makes her even funnier.

The President hit it out of the park tonight, and their "dazed" demeanor is a good indication that they knew it, too.

(The cadence of his speech is much improved from 4 years ago. He doesn't make slightly-too-long pauses at odd moments anymore. That used to irritate me no end, even when I loved what he was saying.)

Mr. H watched the speech, but I didn't (can't take the endless applause after every sentence, which just drags it out). But I caught glimpses whenever I passed through the room, and Crazy Aunt Nan looked positively pale-faced and sick every time I saw her. I saw a clip of her leaving afterwards when she was asked why she tore up the speech, and she was white-faced and practically trembling she was so angry, because Trump's SOTU effectively eviscerated the entire Democrat agenda of the last 20 (or 40) years. That was her recognizing that Trump is an America-loving genius, and the world now knows her for an anti-American loser. I can't wait to see what she does if the Republicans take the House and have to pry that gavel out of her claws.

Also, she said tearing up the speech was "more polite than the alternative", which I suspect would have been an actual physical attack on Trump himself, except that she didn't want to end up on the bottom of a pile of Secret Service agents. Now that would have been funny!

She might also have meant using the paper to wipe her crinkly old bottom (profoundly sorry for that imagery).
