It'll make a nice belt someday

Paco, Jr., for reasons known only to him, recently acquired a pet snake (a python of some sort). His brother, and his niece, Maggie, visited him yesterday, and Maggie seems to have hit it off pretty well with Mr. Skittles.

Mr. Skittles?

Oh, yeah, he's a kid. A boomer would have named his python 'Monty'. :)

That's great (shudder), but only if he doesn't get tired of it and abandon it outdoors. Florida is fighting a never-ending war against pythons that were pets and then set free, because they're an invasive species that are driving out other native species.

RebeccaH, I believe the SyFy Network once had a documentary on that very topic. As I recall, the solution was to treat gators with some DNA altering compound so they grew to enormous size and then the two species fought it out.

Noted biologists Debbie Gibson and Tiffany featured in it.

That show could have been great Steve if it had been made about 20 years earlier.

But what happens when Maggie's beloved mouse goes missing.

Well, she's not afraid of snakes. That's actually a good thing, getting children used to animals at a young age.

But be sure she knows what a pit viper is, and how to identify them. Children are insatiably curious, and will grab any snake. And there are a whole lot of poisonous snakes in the southeast.

Rebecca,

"Driving out", "eating", same thing. Bobcats are completely gone from the Everglades, deer are nearly so, even the Florida Panther is in extreme danger of extinction (their cubs are tasty snacks to a big Burmese python). Put a bounty on the damn things, and make it big enough to encourage hunters to take it seriously.

Steve,

A buddy of mine, um... hooked up with Tiffany at a Palm Springs party we attended 24-25 years ago (in the 1990s, right after she was in Playboy). I did not recognize her at ALL.
