I always hope, when someone restores an antique like this, that some young person will see the restored object and think to themselves: those old people were pretty ingenious after all, and what else did they know or do? It's an education they don't get from books or lectures, and I like to believe it gets them thinking independently.

That's a very interesting perspective. I hope you're right.
I like to watch American Restoration.
That guy does some great work. He tries to go all original, which is cool.
