Assortment

Jazz critic Stanley Crouch has died. I used to catch his columns every now and then, and always found him to be a breath of fresh air, a man of intelligence and common sense who rejected the self-ghettoization of black nationalism. He also provided what was probably the greatest put-down of Spike Lee ever, calling him a "middle-class would-be street Negro" (H/T: Instapundit).  UPDATE:  Some more cool quotes via Powerline.

Redlining on the idiotmeter: "'Where Are The Police?' After Voting To Defund Cops, Minneapolis City Council Baffled Over Recent Crime Wave".

The support by Democrats and their propaganda operatives in the mainstream press of the violence associated with Antifa and BLM has created an open season on the police and on political opponents of the madness.

It's a crazy time, indeed, when a niece of Osama bin Laden turns out to be a better American patriot than the average Democrat office holder.

How about a little truth in labeling? Joe Biden has just received an endorsement from The Scientific American, a magazine which is neither scientific or American.

What to do with Joe Biden if he wins? Kurt Schlichter speculates.

Victor Davis Hanson on the phenomenon of "un-news".

The root cause in Minneapolis is obvious - having voted to eliminate the police, they have not yet done so. While greatly reduced in numbers and hampered in performance, there are still enough police officers in the city to cause crime.

I wonder if the defund people have ever considered closing hospital emergency rooms, in order to eliminate accidents? Shut down fire departments to remove the root causes of fires?

And, yes, Victor Davis is right.

Again.

The news is dead.

If creepy sleepy Joe should win the presidency, I really don't think he can live through his first term. His decline seems to be excelerating, and there's only one end, despite Dr. Jill's efforts to prop him upright.

Stanley Crouch: I don't like David Murray's thing at all, so I'm amazed that Crouch who apparently drummed in Murray's band writes so interestingly. Crouch sure had a window seat at all the pretentious stuff so I guess it was easy to sort the real from the wannabes.

I've stuck to jazz which is rooted in gospel and blues, like say Winton Marsalis now, or even Miles Davis who never got far from blues. I tried to like Ornette Coleman and co but it doesn't hit the spot, and Murray sounds a lot like Coleman. Coltrane always sounds like gospel and blues to me, no matter how 'far out' he got - Coltrane's my hero.

From Colonel Schlichter:

Clearly, he would be a figurehead as Dr. Demento – sorry, Dr. Jill – and Kamala Harris joust for control before a backdrop of scheming pinko puppetmasters.

Dr Jill and Heels-up jousting with strap-ons. Eww.
