If there is to be another civil war in the United States, it is far more likely to resemble the Spanish Civil War, in many respects, than our own earlier War Between the States.

Because the Spanish Civil War was brutal. As the article notes, "Even after General Franco and his Nationalists won, for decades the hatreds between political opponents lingered, poisoning Spain’s culture".
Our own Civil War still, ummmm, "flavors" our culture 160 years later. The potential Second Civil War will be even worse.
