"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Yeah, cringey perhaps, but I'd sooner take one of those cars than anything produced by FCA today. Technological improvements notwithstanding, the company today is run by morons, possibly rejects from Yugo, Lada and Trabant.
ReplyDeleteI love that car. I'd buy it today.
ReplyDeleteMy first car was a Plymouth. Not a 1950's family man's station wagon, but a young man's 1968 Sport Fury III with a whopping big 318 V-8, front bucket seats and a sporty vinyl top. The first thing I did was replace the bias ply tires with new radial tires, and turned it into a corner loving street racer. At least, that's what I imagined it to be. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looked a lot like this.
Thank CAFE for not having rides like that instead of minivans.
ReplyDeleteR-man: You must have looked pretty slick cruisin' the drag.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago, I tossed the idea of buying a minivan into our family dinner conversation. Paco, Jr. - who was probably about eight years old at the time - said, "Why don't we all just get the word 'Dork' tattooed on our foreheads, instead, and save 20 thousand bucks?"
Cool story, Paco.
ReplyDeleteSoooo... what did you do?
My Dad turned one of those into a dune buggy back in '68 or so.
ReplyDeleteHe had the body off and a roll frame welded up but I don't recall what happened to his toy or if he ever got it out to the desert.
I've had a 2011 Charger for a year now and I love it.
Wow!
ReplyDeletePaco junior was already talking tattoos at age eight!
And in a fashion that makes economic sense.
You must have looked pretty slick cruisin' the drag.
ReplyDelete"Draggin' Main"* was the term used in my hometown, where you went to be seen. But by the time I got the car, I was a college graduate and pretty much persona non grata with the high school crowd that dragged Main on the weekends. And, for good or bad, I had outgrown the activity myself.
*The main street thru town was actually North Avenue, but kids still called it draggin' main for some reason.
No, we never bought a minivan.
