Legendary St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Bob Gibson has died at the age of 84.
Bob Gibson and Lou Brock (who died last month) provided me with quite a few nail-biting moments during the 1968 World Series, when my Tigers managed to emerge victorious (largely due to the pitching of Mickey Lolich - who, I am pleased to say, is still very much alive).
Gibby & Brock may have come up a little short in 1968, but they left us Cardinal fans with a lot of good memories during their careers.
ReplyDeleteRIP to both.
It's one of the few times they came up short, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteGibson was so dominant in 1968 (posted an all-time record era of 1.12) that MLB lowered the mound in 1969.
ReplyDeleteGibson's performance in the 1967 World Series against my Boston Red Sox was dominating and devastating. Three complete games, three earned runs, three victories (of the four needed to clinch the title).
ReplyDeleteBob Gibson, RIP.
He was an absolutely fearsome pitcher.
