Classical corner

Héloïse de Jenlis gives a beautiful rendition of Debussy's Clair de Lune on the harp.

Bonus video! Even elephants are deeply moved by Debussy.

  1. Elephants are very sensitive to sound (who knows if they really appreciate music, but I like to think they do). They can hear the subsonic rumblings of other elephants miles away through their feet.

Appropos of nothing, when I was five years old I saw an old Marx Brothers movie in which Harpo broke his comedic persona for one scene and played an absolutely beautiful piece on the harp (don't remember what piece it was). From that time on I nursed a lifelong secret desire to learn how to play the harp, but opportunity never presented itself. I can play the kalimba, though.

  2. Yes, Harpo was quite accomplished. Harps are important in Chilean folk music, interestingly, at least based on what I hear on some of Mrs. Paco's old records.

The kalimba has a pretty tone. Looks like you might be inclined to get blisters on your thumbs, though.
