"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Wow. I've heard that before. An Inuit artist was once asked how he could carve animals out of walrus tusks so accurately, and he said, "You just cut away what isn't the animal."
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think that's just the sculptor being a wise guy. But who knows? Maybe the artist really can see the final creation and simply cuts away everything that isn't part of it in his mind's eye.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I've always admired sculpture - the creative process, that is - above every other form of art. Maybe it's just me, but the whole idea of working with such a hard (and unforgiving) three-dimensional medium seems to put it on a different plane of effort and vision than painting.
