I am getting such a National Lampoon vibe from that ad... it reminds me so much of the goofy, nearly believable fake ads they ran, often by Bruce McCall.
However, it does appear that General Tire, which is still extent ("Sooner or later, you'll own Generals!"), actually produced a "Squeegee" tire in the late Thirties and Forties.
Yes, there definitely was a Squeegee tire. I'm not sure exactly what made it special, except I believe it was supposed to provide superior handling in the rain (at least one ad pushed that angle). I just like the casual elegance of these travelers of the open road.
