Here's a good example of the rich orchestration favored by the Russian composer Alexander Glazunov: Prelude to From the Middle Ages.

  1. Yes, great orchestrator. I got hooked on Glazu's symphonies for a while.

    Shostakovich studied under the old guy, and said Glazu would sit at the teacher's desk with a small rubber hose under his lapel, taking sips all the time - vodka?
