Two Smith &Wesson Model 10s, of course!
I previously highlighted the first-ever Model 10 that I purchased (a 10-14). My latest purchase is the Model 10-6 (chambered in .38 special). This variation was manufactured from 1962 through 1977. It was advertised as a law enforcement officer turn-in; I imagine it was exported, eventually retired from service (probably decades ago), and then stored in an arsenal before being imported back into the U.S.
There is very little external wear on this revolver, and the bore has excellent rifling and a mirror finish; I suspect that it was rarely fired while in service (this is often the case with used police firearms). I took it to the range today, and it worked fine: tight lock-up on the cylinder, and good accuracy.
The photo doesn't really do justice to the condition - especially the grips, which are like new.
There's nothing particularly special about the Model 10. It's been in production, in one form or another, since 1899, and was probably the most common sidearm carried by police officers in the U.S. from the 1950s up until the near-universal change-over to semi-automatic handguns. Over 6 million have been produced since the gun's introduction in 1899. Still, there's just something about a solid, well-made, steel-framed revolver that makes it feel good in the hand.
Nice. I like a nice wheelgun.
ReplyDeleteI do not understand why cops used revolvers into the 70s though when a perfectly good 1911 was available.
My latest is a Remington 870DM. Guy sold it for about what he paid for it new instead of the $1200 I've seen them going for used.
I love it but you can't get mags for love or less than a whole lotta money.
Hopefully they start making them again soon.
Sweet! I know you've been looking for one. Did it just come with one magazine?
ReplyDeleteYeah, just one.
ReplyDeleteA guy is selling his Mossberg for the same price. You can get mags for that but I prefer Remington.
I could buy the Mossberg and sell the Remington but I hope Remington eventually starts making them again so I don't know.
I saw one mag for $600 on an auction site, that's ridiculous.
