Unless it's in an Uncle Remus story, and he's probably been cancelled by now.

"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh

ReplyDelete(I love that song, and Song of the South made a big impression on me as a kid. Luckily I was able to download the movie off the 'net some years back, 'cos Disney won't release it I think, and 'racism' is the total opposite of my response to it).
I grew up on those stories, brer rabbit and brer fox always going at it like the road runner and coyote; in hindsight, the only thing I remember that is objectionable is the term 'tar baby', but in the story it was actually a manekin made of tar to catch brer rabbit, and was a lesson in keeping your temper in check; double entendre, or description of the thing, shoulder shrug; for me it was a description and I don't know if my dad, from upstate ny was familiar with any other meaning of the phraser.
