Here's another LEGO battle video depicting the first day of the Great Patriotic War (German invasion of the Soviet Union). Note the details: NKVD officer dressed in correct uniform, with the distinctive blue cap, the commands and warnings shouted in German and Russian, etc.
Listen closely at about the 3:22 mark, and you'll hear the famous Wilhelm scream.
I hope the FBI doesn't see this, they'll arrest the guy for helping Nazis plan the invasion of Russia.
ReplyDeleteQuite realistic, allowing for the Lego animation. The Soviets had their clocks cleaned by the Nazis at the beginning of Operation Barbarossa because Stalin actually trusted Hitler, and didn't believe the pre-invasion intelligence and initial reports from his commanders.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, the people took it in the shorts, whilst Stalin was comfortable in Moscow.
I think I read somewhere that Stalin was so surprised that he was essentially in shock for several days and had to be forced to come out of his funk to make decisions.
ReplyDeleteFor a comic view of the lead up and early days of the invasion, I highly recommend Vladimir Voinovich's satirical novel, The Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin.
Ah, I thought so! A long while back I wrote a review of Private Chonkin - here it is.

ReplyDeleteYes, that’s so. God knows why that bloody handed commie trusted a bloody handed fascist. But he did.
