But as a separate unit, not as individuals? Like the Gurkhas.
ReplyDeleteThat system of separate ethnic units in an army goes way back and seems more natural to me, rather than the post WW2 'integration' of individuals.
My wife's ancestors came from the Jat people of northern India who had their own regiment in the British Indian Army:

Note it lists their involvement in retrieving the precious Somnath Gates from Kabul Afghans who had looted them in 1842!

ReplyDeleteThat would be significant if you're talking about 'international standards' that don't include flying a LGBTQRST rainbow flag or providing 'safe spaces' when facing your enemy on the battlefield.
