I wonder if they saved any guillotines.
ReplyDeleteSleep well tonight, President Macron.
ReplyDeleteIf you can.
NSW's problem is Police Commissioner Mick Fuller. I first noticed him during bush fires, ordering police to drag people from their homes for their 'safety', and now 'enforcing lockdown' he's in charge of Emergency powers (even drafting laws!) as the right hand of the Premier who likes having such a willing and able enforcer. That's ok when dealing with bad criminals but in practice he's a megalomaniac. He's too good at his job.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, far from any kind of leftism, he's said to be a member of Hillsong evangelical megachurch, just like the PM Scott Morrison, the 2 are close. So I guess he thinks he's serving God with rigorous over-policing for people's 'protection'.
What's revealed I think is we have no tradition of limiting police powers here in Australia. We just took it for granted they knew their place. It's a major flaw in the heart of our constitutional law, as Prof David Flint is trying to emphasise. Flint is old though and mostly ignored. And a lot of ordinary folks seem to support authoritarianism.
Fuller says he'll retire next year. But the flaws in our policing are not going away that easily. We've always taken our 'freedom' for granted, 'she'll be right mate' as we say.
So far I haven't been asked to show proof of vaccination anywhere. I voluntarily gave it to my doctor's office to copy for my medical records, but that's it. I don't know how I'll react if I'm ever asked to show proof of vaccination to enter a store or restaurant, but I suspect it will be badly.
ReplyDeleteV: I'm sure they've got a few crated up somewhere.
ReplyDeleteBruce: Sounds like you all are up against it. Increasingly, we're up against it, too, restrictions on police power notwithstanding.
