Yeah, a lot of bad movies and television shows actually get made and die a fairly quick death, but just think of all those awful TV pilots that never got to first base. Here's a small collection of stinkers (check out the bomb at the 3:01 mark; I wonder if the genius who came up with this ever worked in Hollywood again - mmm...probably).

John Denver as the tough no nonsense superfed.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, many of the shows that get a green light aren't any more reasonable.
I just wasted two hours watching a new show called "La Brea" (I give them at least two episodes to lose me). The premise is that La Brea Tar Pits in LA dropped into a sinkhole that leads to 10,000 B.C., and all the people who got sucked into the hole are having to survive in a wilderness full of wolves and saber tooth tigers and other critters, while the people above have to figure out how to rescue them. It's basically "Lost" with a sinkhole instead of a magic island, but the acting is a hundred times worse. I got the distinct feeling none of the actors really wanted to be there.
ReplyDeleteRebecca: thanks for watching so I won't have to. I was mulling over the possibility of giving the program a look, but I feel I can now safely cross it off my list.
ReplyDeleteSK: You're sure right about that. My Mother the Car, anyone? Btw, I recall seeing a pilot for a sitcom that was going to have Harvey Korman starring in it many years ago. Although Korman is funny, the show was awful (the main problem seemed to be the writing, which was extremely lame). They also tried to give Terry Bradshaw a sitcom; the pilot stunk. Bradshaw, incidentally, has always struck me as a guy who seems to have a good sense of humor, but is not, himself, funny at all (and absolutely has no acting skill). And let us never forget Tim Conway's Turn-On. which folded after one episode (in fact, after the first quarter hour of the show's debut in EST, midwest and western outlets refused to broadcast it at all. Conway always used to joke about how the show was cancelled after the first 15 minutes.
Damn shame that tv cop John Denver never teamed up with tv cop David Cassidy.
ReplyDeleteOpportunity missed there!
