Best wishes to Paco Nation for a terrific Thanksgiving! Save me a slice of sweet potato pie, and a couple of yeast rolls.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving tidings to everyone! We have much to be thankful for!
ReplyDeletePaco, enjoy that sweet potato pie for me, because it isn't usually seen down here. I thought when we moved to the South that there would be sweet potato pie aplenty, but sadly, that is not the case. The only time I've seen it is in those individual pies at Walmart...not a good substitute. So today will be pumpkin, and pecan. The restaurant didn't even have cherry, which is my favorite. Alas.
Well, I almost got here too late, but still...Happy Thanksgiving to all!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! And Morning-After Thanksgiving, Paco Nation!
ReplyDeleteI have plenty of homemade yeast rolls, but I made peach cheesecake instead of pie this year... ^_^ It was a grand time, just 10 of us (11 if you count Victor IV, who will make his first appearance around the first of March).
I am flattened today, but puttering around a bit. Husband has gone to Indiana for a bit, and BEEEoootiful Granddaughter will be here this afternoon to spend the night (parents are going to a concert), so I do have to make up the bed for her and get some Dr. Pepper, but in general I'm just putting most everything off till Sunday.
I've never had peach cheesecake but since I love everything peach...it sounds wonderful. Homemade is even better. Enjoy! Isn't there a Dr. Pepper cake or pie? I know it can be used to make ribs.
DeleteDeborah, sweet potato pie is a southeastern thing, mostly. In the arid southwest, the Thanksgiving dish is yams cooked with molasses and topped with marshmallows.
ReplyDeleteToday is my 75th birthday which means I'm now so far over the hill, I can't even see the hill anymore. My birthday isn't usually a big deal since it falls so near (and sometimes on) Thanksgiving, but we recently left Florida to move back to Ohio where the kids and grandkids and great-grandkids are, so I'm thankfully celebrating that.
First off, Happy Birthday! Mine is December 19, and this year will mark my 70th. My parents always had a celebration. As you may know, I recently came home from a rehab facility after a bout with COVID. There are people there who are in their 80s, 90s, and one lady is 103. So that hill is not as far away as you think, you just may need glasses.
DeleteGlad you relocated back to Ohio, and can be nearer to family. I remember your unhappiness about going to Florida.
We're in Hondo Texas (40 miles west of San Antonio). I haven't seen yams, molasses, and marshmallows, or molasses anything. My Granny and Aunt E (in Pennsylvania) made molasses cookies. I don't know if they used it in the yams. The most familiar yam recipe was with brown sugar, a small bit of pineapple juice, piled on pineapple slices, with a marshmallow on top. This started after we lived in Hawaii.
Best wishes for a very happy birthday, Rebecca! Have you left Florida for good?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the birthday wishes, and yes, I am out of Florida for good. They have a great governor (who I hope will run for president), but the state itself is too small for the hordes of people who are moving there, I missed experiencing actual seasons, and my kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids were just too far away.
ReplyDeleteI confess to absolutely loving Miami. We lived there after we got married for about a dozen years. It's a good bet, though, that I wouldn't recognize the place now.
