"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Usually I find the BBC narrator to be monotonous. This guy was good, but if you ever watch some of the old BBC news reels, you’ll see that the format hasn’t changed much over the generations.
ReplyDeleteThat said … … way back when, marble making was certainly labor intensive, and the results very expensive. No wonder the phrase “Don’t lose your marbles!” was born.
I've watched glass blowers in a couple of places: Murano, Italy and the Ohio Renaissance Festival. What they do with glass is fascinating, absolutely gorgeous vases, bowls, figurines. The Renaissance glass blower (now retired in favor of his daughter, I believe) used to have a comedic patter while he created. He lived somewhere up near Toledo, and every winter he used spray bottles full of colored water to create tropical pictures in the snow in his front yard (he showed us pictures). I had never seen marbles being made though, and now I realize that crystal balls are just giant marbles.
ReplyDeleteHuman creativity is surely proof of God.
It is an amazing skill, to be sure. I guess you really need to avoid hiccups, though.
ReplyDeleteDon't be too hasty about hiccups. They, like a sneeze or cough, could create a masterpiece.
