Californians getting ready to spend some more time with their garbage

"Calif. To Begin Enforcing Mandatory Food Recycling Law".

According to reports on Wednesday, starting in January local governments and entities that collect trash will be required to have food recycling programs in place. Residents in single-family homes and apartments will receive countertop food waste bins that can hold scraps for a day or two before they’re dumped in green waste bins.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, about 40 percent of food is wasted in the U.S. In addition, 15 percent of the nation’s methane emissions are created once that food ends up in landfills.

You watch. Eventually the state government out there is going to force its citizens to capture their farts in methane bottles.

  1. Considering that the residents of socialist "paradises" eventually end up rooting through garbage cans for their food, this should make feeding the starving peasants a wee bit simpler.

Not that I endorse this idea, mind you. I'm just channeling Karl Marx.

For God's sake, please don't give them ideas!

  4. I thought Washington was bad when we lived there, and SoCal wasn't as restrictive. I was just there at the best time, I guess! Duval has reverted to just putting it all in the trash, just like the old days! We do separate our cardboard & tin cans to recycle aboard NAS, and most food waste goes in the compost bed.

  5. Let them come and track the food that goes down my Insinkerator.

  6. Jaycee: Yeah, I didn't think of that risk until I wrote the post.
