So, how's your New Year's day going?

Friend and commenter JeffS provides evidence that there ain't gonna be no hot time in the ol' town out there in the Pacific Northwest tonight.

The thermometer is in shadow, but, unless my eyes deceive me, that looks like 10 degrees °F.

Our winters here in the southern coastal region of North Carolina are comparatively mild, but I have to admit that it has been unseasonably warm. We've had some recent days in the low 70s, and the high today is expected to be 68. Feels a little chillier than that because there's some sea fog blowing inland, but still, no snow on the horizon, that's for sure.

Sorry I missed the ophthalmologist's New Year's party last night; there appears to have been some excitement.

    1. Brrrr indeed! Throw another log on the fire, and put another layer of clothes on.

  2. The temp is currently 10 degF here south of Denver, hopefully warming to 14 deg later today.

Never point a loaded bottle of bubbly at anyone that you don't intend to harm!

    1. Cold in Colorado in the winter? Who would have thunk it.

  3. I attended a two-week seminar in Boulder, Colorado many years ago, and on a weekend some friends and I took a drive up into the Flatiron Mountains. I didn't have any kind of jacket or anything (hey, it was July!) and I damned near froze.

Btw, sparkee, have they got the fire under control yet up in Boulder County?

  4. It's been unseasonably warm here in southwest Ohio for this time of year (welcome back to Ohio family H, I guess), but today winter strolled in and looks to be staying a while. Lots of rain, but still no snow ... yet. It's yet to be seen if the Old Farmer's Almanac will be accurate this year.

  5. Paco, the wind finally eased off enough late Friday for firefighters to get the fire under control. And then 11 1/2 inches of snow fell Friday night and Saturday.

  6. Glad to hear that, sparkee. Sounds like a bad one (although I guess they all are).

  7. Thanks for the instructional video by the opthamologist, Paco, sir! Something should be done by someone to prevent such tragedy! And right now! Ban corks! But not those on bottles destined for certain people...of course. Life depends on it, so act now!
