Snubby!

I recently found this Colt Agent revolver at my local gun store. It's a six-shot in .38 Special, and was manufactured in 1967 (the regular production run began in 1955 and extended through 1979, though there was a short-lived attempt to revive it for a few years in the 1980s). The Agent is very similar to the original Colt Cobra, and is, in fact, considered a subvariant; the main difference is that the grip is a little shorter. It's in great shape and is, I believe, the same model Old Paco carried when he was with the ATF in the 1950s and 1960s. The bluing is still beautiful, and the gun appears to have seen little use; the cylinder cartridge chambers and the barrel are pristine, and the cylinder locks up tight when the hammer is cocked.

At the range, the little fellow performed admirably. The only thing that was a little surprising was the relatively long trigger reset, which is fine, once you get used to it. The thing kicks a little, but is noticeably less unpleasant to shoot than a S&W 642 Airweight (both revolvers have aluminum alloy frames).

I'm gradually making up for the paucity of Colts in my collection. I really love the old Colt double-action revolvers (I'm not familiar with the quality of the new ones that have come out in the last several years).

  1. What's the accuracy like with that short barrel?

Also, about those 'Australians gave up their guns' story...

  2. That is nice.
Not in the same class, but I keep seeing Iver Johnson or New England Firearms or some other old American gunmaker's .32 top break.
    Usually nickel or chrome plated.
Nothing special, just a piece of American history.
    I will get one soon.

  3. I like those old top breaks, particularly the Iver Johnsons. The gun store in Wilmington where I do most of my business (Heritage Guns) used to have a bunch of H&R top breaks. I saw one in .38 S&W that I liked awhile back, but I procrastinated too long and somebody else got it.
