Time to hunker down

Hurricane Ian looks like a nasty one, so anybody in its path needs to take all necessary precautions, and God be with you (or, I should say, us, because it might even make its way up to the Carolinas and beyond).

Rebecca, looks like you got out of Florida at the right time.

  2. Prayers to all who have been and will be effected by Ian.

Paco, when do you think y'all will have to get out? I hope the homestead (and Southport) will be okay.

Rebecca, I'm thinking the same thing as Paco: you got out of Florida at the right time.

  3. Thanks all, I was thinking the same thing. Although Navarre, where we were, is located on a sound that is protected by a barrier island, but still will get horrendous wind and rain. The hotels and condos out on the barrier island are not so lucky, they'll be right in the path of the storm surge. The damage will be bad. During the last hurricane, which was a relatively small one, all the houses on the sound lost their docks, and parts of Pensacola were underwater for days.

  4. Deborah: we ain't goin' nowhere. I don't think we're going to get anything but the tail end of this storm, anyway.

    1. I hope you're correct. At least you'll save on watering. Hopefully Daisy is like Mabel (God bless her) was when she toughed out the snow. Is Daisy up on her swimming skills?

Take care. Best wishes and prayers.

  5. Daisy can swim, but she's afraid of storms.

    1. Smart dog. Smarter than the networks who send their reporters out in gales.

  6. Docks and boats and doggies. Oh dear.

  7. Follow up on Hurricane Ian. We spoke to a friend in Navarre this morning, and he said they never even got any rain. A strong north wind blew in and pushed the hurricane east. Looks like it's going up the east coast now, so you may get a lot of rain, Paco. The damage in central and south Florida is pretty bad, though.

  8. We're expecting quite a bit, but we've got the shutters all closed up, the propane generator's ready to go, and lot's of food already prepared, so I think we're ready.
