RIP old friend

Daisy, the official dog of Paco Enterprises, passed away today at the age of 14. She had been suffering from ailments of the liver and pancreas, and suddenly lost the capacity to use her hind legs. Daisy was a rescue dog, found as a puppy in a dumpster with two siblings, one of whom was dead. I like to think we helped to make up for such a ghastly early experience by providing her with a loving home for many years. She gave us much pleasure with her funny antics and her steadfast devotion.

God willing, we'll see you on the other side, old girl.

  1. Oh no. So very sad. My sincerest sympathies. Just as she was a blessing, you were to her. I'm sure Daisy will greet you and Mrs. P. She put in good word for you.

  3. Sorry Paco and Mrs Paco.
That's too bad. She'll be missed.
She's in doggie heaven now, which is the same as kitty hell.

  4. My family had a dog named Pepper that I was always told was born on the same day I was. I never considered Pepper 'my dog', but he was as close as I ever came to having a 'my dog'. One day when I was 13, I went across the two-lane highway in front of our house, down a lease road to do...something. Of course, Pepper went with me, but when we came back a noisy, rickety old pick-up passed by. Pepper grew up by, and survived, the highway for 13 years; but for some reason that day he decided to chase the old truck. He was running behind the truck, but then for some reason crossed into the other lane, just as a car was coming.

The driver stopped and apologized, but I told him it wasn't his fault, Pepper ran in front of him. I went in and told mom what happened, got a shovel from the garage, and gave him a proper burial. I didn't cry, but I sure missed ol' Pepper for a long time. It's nice to have the memories, though. I'm sure you're glad to have a lot of good memories, too.

  5. My condolences to you and Mrs. Paco. It's always sad to lose a close friend, and dogs often fill that role.

  6. I am so sorry, Paco and Mrs. P. Losing a dog is like losing a family member, and they leave a giant hole in your heart that you'll never fill up completely. My own Daisy is getting on in years, and I am dreading the day. I've lost many dogs over the years, and she will be the last one.

  7. Thanks everyone for the kind words. I think this will be our last dog, too. We'd like to do some traveling while we're still (somewhat) spry.
