More things between heaven and earth

There's a new movie coming out called The Pope's Exorcist, starring Russel Crowe as the real-life Father Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican's former chief exorcist (he passed away in 2016). Looks to be interesting.

In this interview with Gyles Brandreth of The Sunday Telegraph, reprinted in the Boston Catholic Journal, Father Amorth revealed himself to be a lively and, indeed, jolly soul, who relished the fight against evil.

Incidentally, if you really want to read something scary, try the late Malachi Martin's Hostage to the Devil, which takes a close look at five well-documented cases of demonic encounters/possession.

Just sayin'...have you ever looked into Brandon's glossy, soulless eyes? Does he genuinely seem to be...his own man? Ok, maybe that's just because his lights went out, but you never know; he might be the devil's idea of slapstick comedy.

  1. If a demon took possession of Dirty Old Joe, then all it got was an empty meat suit. Joe's soul left his body years ago.

  2. 'The devil's idea of slapstick comedy.'
    That would explain a lot.

  3. The trailer does look very interesting. Since I'm unable to get out, I hope Direct TV will have it. I'll gladly rent it. Nice to see Russell again. Is there a book?

  4. Deborah - Mrs. Paco and I rarely go out to see new movies, so we'll wait until it shows up on Amazon Prime or something before we watch it (if we watch it at all; this kind of thing is particularly terrifying).

Father Amorth wrote a book - My Fight Against Satan - which is still available (I haven't read it). And there's a documentary film called Father Amorth and the Devil, which covers a genuine exorcism (again, this sounds very intense; not at all sure I can watch it). It's available on Crackle for free, and I believe it can be rented on Amazon. We connect to movies and TV shows through Roku.
