Bold move - I mean, Chicago being MAGA country and all.
What could be more emblematic of the times than the Democrats having their national convention in a city coming apart at the seams in a maelstrom of corruption, mismanagement and violence - a city run by Democrats for the last 90 years?
It would be hilarious to see a repeat of the '68 convention.

When I served in the Illinois Army National Guard, there were a number of senior NCOs and officers who had been around for the 1968 convention, and the later race riots, had a number of interesting stories to tell.

And by coincident I saw this morning that Walmart is closing 4 stores in Chicago... by this coming weekend.
ReplyDeleteI dare the convention attendees to get from Chicago's many parking garages to the convention hall without being mugged. Even if they take Uber or limos, hope the streets are clear of ferals, guys. Chicago doesn't discriminate.
ReplyDeleteRebecca, Lord Mayor "Commie" Johnson could emulate Daley, as r-man suggests. Among other things, Daley The Elder prettied the route between the convention center and the airport by fencing off all the abandoned lots and fixing broken windows. I have no doubt the low level criminals will be told stay away from the Loop for the duration.

The criminals, at every level, laugh at fencing like chain link. If the Mayor were to fix broken windows, it would make the criminals smile.
DeleteChicago has a long history of violence and corruption, but I'd rather live in the Chicago run by its last Republican mayor, Big Bill Thompson, and his friend Al Capone, than in the hellscape it has become in modern times.
ReplyDeleteIIRC the 1968 Dem convention featured what the media of the time called a "police riot" with the cops against anti-war demonstrators. Not sure if today's Chiraq establishment will take a hard line against BLM, AntiFa and tranny activists rioting.

DeleteYes, I remember the press referring to the violence as a "police riot". I think the danger today is that they'll be ordered to stand down if there's any trouble (committed by Approved Groups, that is).
