"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
What were they making bicycles from besides steel, at that time, that made steel the smarter choice?
ReplyDeleteAnd why is he riding on the wrong side of the road?
I had a Raleigh ten speed over forty years ago, it was when they still built them in Nottingham. Over the years I thought it disappeared in a move, and then about five years ago I literally stumbled across it in my garage while shifting a pile of Gawd-knows-what.
ReplyDeleteAnyway I have a Giant road bike with 27 speeds, but still hang on to the old Raleigh because I just can't bear to part with it.
It's an heirloom, so make sure it goes to a deserving family member.
DeleteIn my high school years in Hawaii, I had a bike that I rode at break neck speed down the hill we lived on. The thrill of the speed gave no room for safety concerns.
ReplyDeleteI still have a Raleigh road bike with Shimano 105 group set. It's my second Raleigh bike. Both were hand made in England. The first suffered a bent frame, not sure how but I was hesitant to ride it ager that. I got to over 80kph/50mph on that one. Downhill. It was a sports car compared to my old bike. I finally managed to find a near new Raleigh a couple of years ago to replace that one. It is beautiful to ride. The kid is on the correct side of the road for England.
