Happy Feet Friday

Dizzy Gillespie composed the jazz standard, "Interlude", in the early 1940s. Lyrics were written by Raymond Leveen and the song was recorded by Sarah Vaughan in 1944 (today's feature, which includes a brief trumpet solo by Gillespie). Later on, the instrumental piece came to be known as "Night in Tunisia".

  1. This recording is a gem. I knew the tune as a bebop Charlie Parker instrumental and it never seemed to flow right. 'Tunisia' in the title just confused me too, the beat sounded more Carmen Miranda!

But now I hear how it was supposed to sound and the lyrics are great, as is Dizzy's brief solo. Vaughan's singing is always tops too.

    Now it all makes sense.
