Deja vu

I saw this photo in a post of more or less random pictures at The Feral Irishman.

I had a Superbird that looked exactly like this; in fact, I had to check out that person off to the right to make sure that that wasn't somebody I knew, and that this wasn't actually my car.

  2. Nice subtle color. I'm sure you could cruise around town without anyone noticing you.

When I was a young man there was a popular week-end activity called "draggin' main" which involved driving back & forth endlessly down the main street in town. It was about as exciting and pointless as it sounds, but it was a small town without a lot of entertainment options. One of the main attractions was to see what interesting cars were also out cruising, and of course you wanted to be driving one of the interesting cars, yourself.

That subtle green Superbird would have certainly created a lot of talk.

  3. I was in high school and university in Southern CA in the Seventies, and well remember the phenomenon of "cruising." I never did it myself because it just wasn't appealing to me, but during this time was when American Graffiti was released.

I think one of the major cruising streets in CA at the time was Grand Blvd in Escondido, although nearly every town and city had one at least for a while. But while Wolfman Jack really was a radio personality back then, the one I paid most attention to at the time was Dr. Demento, broadcasting live every Sunday evening from KMET in LA. So I guess I really wasn't cut out to be part of the cruising scene anyway.

  4. Australia got plenty of Mustangs, back in the 70s, but I don't remember ever seeing a Superbird. That tailfin is something that would stick in the memory!

  5. Ahh, the cars we should've kept if only we had the money, space, forethought.
That is a nice one. Probably would have paid for that holiday house in the desert.

  6. Awesome car! I loved those.
Should we call you Mr. The King?
If I had had one at 18 or younger I wouldn't be here now.
I had a 72 Dart with a slant 6 and was still voted most likely to die behind the wheel.

Notice diesel was cheaper than regular.
Truckers were upset when they started making diesel cars, it shot up. Now it's more expensive.

  7. That's the one I sold in order to buy an engagement ring for the future Mrs. Paco. If I had held on to it, I could probably buy a sizable interest in a diamond mine by now.

    1. In that case I think it was a very astute investment.
