Folks, it's hot out there

The temperature here in the environs of the Paco Command Center has been running well up into the 90's for weeks, with heat index readings up to 106. I don't know if we could pull this off, though:

Hot weather's good for cotton, and I have one little plant that I managed to grow from some seeds that one of the volunteers at a local community garden gave me.

If I'm lucky, that will generate enough cotton to make a stopper for an aspirin bottle.

Update  Our first sweet potatoes of the season.

The shapes appear a tad baroque, but I hope, after the appropriate curing, they will prove to be tasty.

  1. Ah, once again the combined green thumbs within Paco Command bear fruit!

    Or at least vegetables. Splendid!

  2. It only took 45 minutes because the mailbox is embedded in brick. Guess she can bake a lot (like pizza) in there. But she had to figure when the mail would arrive.

In my neck of Texas (hours 24 minutes from Houston; near San Antonio), the today's temperature is supposed to be 104°. I can't cook anything outside because of the resident raccoons. Richard would have to stand guard.

  3. Paco, those sweet potatoes look delicious! Congrats on those and the cotton! Now, I'm gonna have to buy some. But they won't be as whimsical.

  4. I guess baking bread in a mailbox is less messy that frying eggs on the sidewalk or a car hood, though both are still doable.
