We used to think that technology, specifically the decentralization of information distribution represented by the Internet, would erode the ability of authoritarians to establish tyranny.
Ha ha. We were naive. To be fair, nobody expected that Big Tech would align with the authoritarians. Note to the hysterical ninnies on the left shrieking whenever they see a red ball cap: this is what actual "fascism" looks like.
To be honest, the future isn't turning out to be what I had imagined/hoped for when I was young and optimistic.
