An interesting bit of Naval history

"The Only Navy Warship Authorized to Fly a Pirate Flag at Sea".

  1. Pirate flags were very distinctive, each crew or captain wanting it to establish the "brand." My favorite was Bartholomew Roberts (yes, the Dread Pirate Roberts) who had personal beefs with the respective governors of Martinique and Barbados.

And so his flag showed a depiction of him brandishing a flaming sword and standing on two skulls labeled "ABH" and "AMH" for "A Barbadian's Head" and "A Martinitian's Head." Just to let everybody know that it wasn't business, it was personal.
