I never really thought about the noise koalas make...

...but if I had thought about it, I sure wouldn't have imagined anything like this.

Update  Doesn't sound quite so bad when accompanied by drums.

  1. If you hear that sounds it's already too late.

The koala, a wily beast, lurks silently in the trees waiting for his prey to wander beneath, then he drops in a lethal death plunge. That's the sound it makes after dispatching its prey.

  3. Yep, they make that noise especially during mating season I believe, when you can hear a chorus in the trees.

  4. What Steve said.
Dropbears are not a myth invented to scare American tourists. Here's your proof!

  7. The female koala's mating call sounds like somone dry retching. Combine that with the male's donkey noise and it reminds me of the pub carpark after closing time when I was young and single.

  8. Wow! Instead of being labeled drop bears, koalas should be renamed Tree Pigs. Can you imagine a chorus of that when you're sitting on the verandah enjoying a smooth drink and a nice, romantic evening?

It reminded me of those old movies about African safaris where they used the kookaburra call to provide background jungle noise.

  10. Off topic I know but Australia is at the moment playing India in the final of the One Day International World Cup.
It is probably the most watchable short form of the game.
The series has been going for about six weeks and the final game is being played in the Indian city of Ahmedabad. The stadium holds 130,000. There seems to be about 20 Australians there including the 11 players.
It is an awesome atmosphere and we are holding our own at the moment.
