Somebody on Face Book today sent out a blast mentioning a special deal Crown Royal is promoting: at no cost to you, the company will pack some snack items into one of their well-known blue velvet bags and send them to American troops.
It seems to be legit. Here's the web site if you're interested.
Huh. Haven't had Crown Royal in... maybe forty years. My first ship in the Navy, my roommate and next door neighbor in housing liked a "shot and a beer" in the evenings. This was not the traditional toss the shot and follow with the beer, he liked to sip each alternately. A more civilized way than people usually drink a boilermaker.
ReplyDeleteHis preferred whiskey was Crown Royal. I haven't spoken to him in over twenty five years, and my preferred whiskies now are single malts and Bourbon... but perhaps it's past time to pick up a bottle in the blue velvet bag.
Royal Crown was "my" drink, back when I first started imbibing (which is to say, a couple of years before I was "legal"). I figured anything that came in such a classy bottle (and in a blue velvet bag, to boot!) had to be good.
ReplyDeleteAs it turned out (fortunately), I never developed a taste for whisky. Exception: I do like apple pie whisky, particularly this here big Mason jar I've been savoring from time to time, made by the family of a friend up in the hill country. Hmm...can't seem to be able to find the tax stamp on this thing...well, anyway, it's pretty good.
I do enjoy a glass of Drambuie once or twice a year. A little syrupy, though; I expect you could pour the stuff over pancakes if you wanted to.
I like Crown, that's my usual drink.
ReplyDeleteI drink scotch as well, I don't have a favorite.
Irish whisky is good too, Bushmills.
The only bourbon I've had is Jack and I'm not a fan.
I've recently heard others are much better.
My work has a sign up for sending Marines boxes, I did the Crown one and will do it here as well.
The Crown choices let me know what to get for the work one.
Cool.
Just a tip to sending boxes that I picked up at Operation Gratitude (chech them out). Send them by name, not just to "Service Member". OG gets the names of the entire unit, so no one goes without.
DeleteNotes are a welcome and important addition to a box. Go to Operation Gratitude for pointers.
Thank you to you and your employer for sending the boxes!
My father in law was a Cutty Sark guy; growing up, the big drink at weddings was a Segram's 7 and 7up, my cousin brought a handle of Segrams to the most recent one, to warm up.
ReplyDeleteMy father was a 7&7 fan.
ReplyDeleteI'll drink vodka and 7 but never mix your whiskey with anything but water.
And hot chocolate. That's really good.
Hot chocolate and whiskey? Hmm. I'd try that.
DeleteThey're gonna be disappointed when they open the blue bag and find only snacks. How far can a CR bag fly?
ReplyDeletePS Good on CR for thinking of the troops!
