She reminds me of Pandita Ramabai, a scholarly Hindu woman whose conversion to Christianity in the 1880s was widely celebrated:

Of course in the US you were too involved in your own dramatic history to pay attention to British history. But kids in the wider anglo world now learn history through a Hollywood social-media prism and don't know their own, and that's disastrous.
Good luck to her, and I hope she has a really good security team. I keep hoping that some kind of political movement will succeed in breaking up the Muslim enclaves in this country so that ordinary Muslims get some contact with life that isn't minutely ruled by Muslim clerics. You see it in affluent Muslims who move out into the suburbs, but even there they don't speak up out of fear of their fellow mosque-goers.
