J.S. Bach's Coffee Cantata (background here).
Bonus tune! Some sassy brass (courtesy of Aaron Copland's "Buckaroo Holiday").
Bonus Tune II! Check out this 5-year-old (now 6-year-old) prodigy.
"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Bach's Coffee Cantata sounds very much like Bach was wired up on caffeine when he composed it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I now have a new epithet when discussing Anthony Fauci or Hillary Clinton:
shriveled-up roast goat.
The only 'secular' cantata by Bach, or was it? Protestants wanted to avoid the drinking culture of the old churches and saw the then recent discovery of coffee as God's gift: instead of indolence and sloth (liquor!) it promoted wakefulness and industriousness.
ReplyDeleteI became aware of this delving into the history of the rugged area I live in, which had 'coffee palaces' everywhere for some reason, once it was developed. The main driving force of the region's development were highly motivated Methodists in the late 1800s, at the peak of the Temperance movement which they were promoting. That explains it.
That Mozart piano sonata movt the boy plays is so familiar. I wanted to track it down but hit lots of dead ends with Google's algorithms - I refuse to call it a 'song' for example!
ReplyDeleteAnyway you can guess how I found it: Yep, 'Mozart Looney Tunes'. That's where I guess I first heard it. So it's:

Also, I love Copeland's 'cowboy' music and any stuff like that he wrote, and that was a delight.
