So, "Take Five" has lyrics; who knew?
Carmen McCrae, at the 1982 Montreux Jazz Festival.
"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
I once heard, I think it was Bobby McFarrin, sing Take Five.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, many classic TV themes have lyrics too. Andy Griffith, Bonanza, Star Trek, and I Love Lucy for example. Michael Franks sings the latter on his album Dragonfly Summer.
One time I came to practice of the band i followed as a teenager in the '60s in Hawaii. Aa I entered the building and stood at the foot of the stairs Take Five wafted down from the second floor. I was immediately hooked. Tho many, many years have passed (I'm 72 now), Take Five still grabs my attention.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know it had lyrics. It actually is a distraction.
Thanks, Paco!
Stephen: I have a book somewhere that consists of the melody lines and the lyrics of TV shows. Years ago, I took it to work, and a couple of friends and I tried to sing the lyrics to Bonanza. We couldn't make it more than four bars or so before cracking up laughing, the lyrics were so hokey.
ReplyDeleteDeborah: The purest version, for sure, is the original instrumental.
