I have reached an age at which I am frequently disappointed, but rarely surprised

So, another Hollywood actor turns out to be a woke a$$hole: "‘Modern Family’ Star Ed O’Neill Returning Honorary Degree in Protest of Youngstown State University GOP President Hire".

I used to watch Married With Children Regularly for the first couple of years, until it started to become self-referential and utterly predictable; I've never even tried watching Modern Family (if, for no other reason, because I cannot suspend my disbelief to the extent of visualizing Ed O'Neill married to Sofia Vergara).

  1. What has changed? Back when I was in college, I don't remember anyone ever being concerned about which political party the university president belonged to, or that it even mattered to the students and alumni.

Yeah, I think I watched the first episode or two of Married With Children, and decided it didn't fit my definition of 'funny', and never watched it again. Modern Family came along about the time I gave up on network sitcoms, so I've never seen it. I'm guessing I haven't missed much.

  2. I search through YouTube occasionally, and I am astonished at how many tv programs, from the 80s to date, I have never even heard of. Most of them seem to have been cancelled after one season.

  3. First as a pampered football star and then as a pampered actor, he's had a charmed life. Never had a 'real job'.

Also his mother was a social worker, which may have influenced his politics. His dad was a steel worker who might have been pro-Trump. All that may factor in.

Sounds like a case of throwing s**t at the wall to see what sticks.

  5. I don't think people like O'Neill really believe in what they spout. They say what they say and do what they do in order to get jobs in Hollywood and get invited to all the right parties.
