The "rule of law" vs "rule by law"

Roger Kimball delves into some of the more disturbing aspects of our country's decline. A sample:

How, Tocqueville asked, would despotism come to a modern democracy? It would not, as in despotisms of yore, tyrannize over the populace. Rather, it would enforce submission by promulgating conformity in a gentle, if smothering, way. And it would do this by casting over society an increasingly intricate network of rules and regulations that sap initiative. In Tocqueville’s famous image, the government becomes a vigilant shepherd and the people a flock of sheep.

I think that's been the model for the last hundred years or so; however, with the weaponization of government, particularly the FBI, the brazen creation of a two-tier justice system, the persecution of conservative protestors (J6, anti-abortion), the manipulation of the election process, and the attempt to silence opposition through lawfare, I believe the Left is now quite content to use methods consistent with the "despotisms of yore".

  1. Will they want to kill us if we lose our guns?

Yeah, eventually. So why give them the chance? Just don't let them have them.

BTW, did anyone else get the email from the Trump campaign wanting suggestions for his VP?
I suggested Senator John Kennedy. Let me know why that was wrong.

  2. Funny how the people demanding that I disarm keep their armed security, isn't it? I mean, just weird that they say they want to "ban" semiautomatic firearms, but what they really mean is they want a monopoly on them.

Just odd. Can't figure it out.

Well Paco, they tried being nice about it and pointing oit how we aren't nice, then they pointed out how much smarter and better they are, then they deplatformed everybody who disagrees.
    What else can they do?
