He should live so long

Bernie Sanders is running for Senate again.

Paco World News Daily (PWND) was there as Sanders made the announcement to a small group of staff members and donors.

"What? Speak up, Bernie, we can't hear you under all that plastic and with the oxygen machine blowing. Did you say something about having the runs?"

"The General Secretary is in fine health and is spending a week at his Dacha with family."

No, you can't look in the room behind me.

Yet another ancient politician determined to do the toes up retirement.

I wonder when they'll start using AI to take over the thinking for old fossils like Biden & Sanders?

'Assisted thinking' to extend their 'productive years in office'.

I think that development may occur sooner than we think. Perhaps some day soon we'll be presented with a choice between various ideologies, and we'll be voting for a mere slate of ideas, rather than an actual person to serve as even a nominal leader.

If you have not read Heinlein's The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, I strongly suggest you do so now. One of the "characters" is an AI, although that term is not used. A supercomputer on the Moon colony becomes self aware and generates a faux persona to become the "leader" of the independence movement.

It might not be the first appearance of AI in fiction, but it is a very early one (1966). Incidentally, another of Heinlein's predictions was the ATM... almost. He had "24 hour tellers" in the novel Door Into Summer, but there was still a human in the loop. Since all the banks used the same computers to manage their accounts, they all funded 24 hour tellers, where one would visit a kiosk with a person who would make deposits and disbursements from your account regardless of which bank you used. SF writers still thought in terms of massive supercomputers, I don't know of any that make the leap of imagination to the PC.

I have never been much of a Sci-Fi reader, but even I know that one has the reputation of being a classic in the genre, so it's probably about time I did delve into it.

Time to retire, Bernie. Other people's money is just like the regular sort, you can't take it with you.
Bugger off and enjoy whatever your version of the good life may be.

Heinlein got lots right, but he didn't get computers right until his later stuff, after Time Enough For Love.
The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress might become a how-to guide for the right much like 1984 did for the left.
Heinlein also invented waterbeds and he's the reason robot arms are called Waldoes.
He actually invented a lot. Smart guy.

Meant to comment this but got sidetracked....

I just hope America outlives Bernie.

Politicians like Bernie have learned that they can take other people's money with them. Just ask the Kennedys, and Clintons.
