Debussy's La fille aux cheveux de lin.
Bonus video! Who knew that 1950s and 1960s sex symbol, Jayne Mansfield, was a classically trained violinist? I sure didn't. Here she is on the Ed Sullivan program performing Vivaldi's Concerto No. 6 in A Minor.
"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
I didn't know that Jane Mansfield was a violinist! Wow. The things I never learned as a kid .....
ReplyDeleteI was just reading up on her. She reportedly had a very high IQ and spoke several languages. She was known as "the smartest dumb blonde in Hollywood".
ReplyDeleteThat was certainly a surprise.
ReplyDeleteI suppose the next thing I'll be finding out is that Marilyn Monroe solved Fermat's Last Theorem.
ReplyDeleteOr, I should say, discovered a proof of Fermat's Last Theorem.
DeleteRemember Charo, the "cuchi, cuchi" girl who was on The Tonight Show a lot?
ReplyDeleteDid you know she's a very good classical guitarist who was taught by Andres Segovia?
Oh, wait, you do. I think we've talked about her surprising talent in the past.
I don't know if we talked about it, but I do remember seeing her playing the guitar on a talk show once, and she was very good.
DeleteI guess I'm classically trained on the violin - 50 years ago I took lessons from a lady who played in an orchestra. I had the left hand fingering down, but bowing, I never got past screeching cat noises, and had nowhere to practice, so went back to guitar. I can hear when Jayne screeches - especially when she moves into 2nd position, higher register - made me cringe. But remembering the piece without reading is a good feat. She has a good firm grip, unusual for a girl.
