No days off on the farm

Mrs. Paco and I (mostly Mrs. Paco) spent a productive afternoon repotting our pineapple plants prior to bringing them inside for the winter. You've really got to be careful with those things; it's like wading into a patch of bayonets.

And then, the day was done...

  1. Oy, I had no idea people actually grow pineapples as house plants. As a major plantoholic, I have to thank you for presenting me with an other temptation.h

    1. We leave them outside most of the year, then bring them in during the winter. It takes a pineapple plant a few years to generate a fruit, but it's worth it. The fruit is smaller, but sweeter and less tart than what you find in a grocery store. And they're super easy to grow: just cut the top off of a pineapple you buy at the store and stick it in the dirt.

  2. My father in law took some pineapple tops and set them in the dirt along the south wall next to his condo back when they were snowbirds; they grew! But I don't think he ever got to harvest any.
