"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
The Harris campaign was a never ending succession of "How do you do, fellow kids?" moments. Both Harris and Walz grabbed every opportunity to appear inauthentic, false, even fraudulent.
ReplyDeleteTrump, on the other hand, always came across as authentic. Part of that I ascribe to him being the sort of person who what you see is what you get. But a good part must also have been his ability to bring diverse people aboard. Tulsi Gabbard, Elon Musk, and RFK Jr. are all unlikely examples, but to approach young people, he also listened to actual, you know, young people.
But the Dems have always struggled to reach real people, at least within my memory. Consider the Hillary campaign's urban outreach office - located in Brooklyn.
Sounds like the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Or, at 6'9", maybe the he's the tree.
ReplyDeleteHe may be the tech guru of the future, but I don’t see Barron as a politician. He seems too reserved, too serious-minded. He reminds me of my oldest grandson. You had to work hard to get that kid to laugh.
ReplyDeleteFrom the transcript of the Rogan/Trump interview.
ReplyDeleteDONALD TRUMP: So I always got more publicity than other people, and it wasn’t like I was trying, in fact, I don’t know exactly why, maybe you can tell me why.
JOE ROGAN: Oh, I can definitely tell you.
DONALD TRUMP: Maybe.
JOE ROGAN: You said a lot of wild shit. You said a lot of wild shit, and then CNN, in all their brilliance, by highlighting your wild shit made you much more popular, and they boosted you in the polls, because people were tired of someone talking in this bullshit, pre-prepared politician lingo. And even if they didn’t agree with you, they at least knew, whoever that guy is, that’s him, that’s really him. When you see certain people talk, certain people in the public eye, you don’t know who they are, you have no idea who they are, it’s very difficult, and you see them in conversations, they have these pre-planned answers, they say everything, it’s very rehearsed, you never get to the meat of it.
That's very true. No matter what you think of Trump, he's exactly who he appears to be, absolutely no phoniness.
DeleteHe also manages to say the true stuff we're not allowed to say but in such a way as to get our fine media betters frothing so they amplify it and normal folks say, "Well, yeah."
ReplyDeleteAlso true.
