I initially failed to notice that Veeshir had a question about making rice with milk. Sorry about that.
Mrs. Paco says use 1 cup of brown rice, 4 cups of milk, one chicken bouillon cube or a tsp of chicken bouillon powder and a sprinkling of garlic powder. Microwave on high power for 5 minutes, and then Power 30* for 80 minutes. For white rice, use 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of milk. If you use white rice, you might need to cut the microwave Power 30 time to 40 minutes.
If you use a regular pot on the stovetop instead of a microwave, bring to a boil and then reduce to low. Brown rice, about 50 minutes, white rice, about 30. You've got to keep an eye on it if you cook it in a pot; it has a tendency to stick to the sides and bottom.
The final result is somewhat gooier than rice cooked in water, but it's very tasty, and it's nice for a change of pace, since we eat rice four or five times a week.
* Our microwave has different power settings. I think Power 30 is a low power setting.
That's twice the milk.
ReplyDelete1 to 2 is rice to water.
I don't use the microwave, I like a pot with a glass top so you know when it's done.
Should it be 8 minutes in the nukester, not 80?
No, it's 80 minutes on low level in the microwave for brown rice. And if you're doing brown rice, 4 cups of milk to 1 cup of rice (2 cups of milk to 1 cup of white rice if you prefer white rice). This is one of those things where the microwave doesn't save you any time.
DeleteI guess I didn't see the addendum.
ReplyDeleteI'll try it.
