I'm sure there were many GOP squishes who were eager to offer advice to Trump about his cabinet picks, most likely recommending invertebrates resembling themselves. But Trump pushed for the people he wanted in order to create a solid, anti-deep-state team, and, so far, so good - including today: "Tulsi Gabbard Confirmed as Director of National Intelligence".
Mitch McConnell - whose mummification seems to be almost complete - joined his Democrat pals in opposing her. I guess he's not going to be content until his reputation turns into something even the pigs won't eat.
Nope, not me. I did not propose any candidates for Trump, having learned my lesson the first time.
ReplyDeleteWhen Trump was elected in 2016 I said "He better appoint Mattis to SecDef." And he did! Yay! And how did that one work out? So this time I figured, let Trump make his own picks and hope he learned from the first time. And so far it looks like he has.
I initially liked Mattis, too, although that whole celibate, "warrior monk" schtick was always a little unsettling. And then, of course, he turned out to be just another insubordinate, anti-Trump grifter ( the insubordination, coming from a Marine general, was definitely surprising to me).
DeleteMy grandson, who was an active Marine at the time, didn’t like Mattis, and he told me a lot of his fellow Marines didn’t either. Since he couldn’t outright denigrate his commander, he wouldn’t explain why. I guess we know now.
DeleteI would have recommended that he accede to the left’s demand to reach across the aisle and seek unity by nominating some democrat Senators from states with Republican governors, such as the two from Georgia—for positions that are truly meaningless, powerless, and purely ceremonial. Maybe ambassador to Tuvalu or Seychelles.
ReplyDeleteHow about putting a donk in charge of the Sasquatch Discovery Commission? That ought to keep him (or her, as the case may be) relatively harmlessly occupied.
