Way back in the Cretaceous period...

Mrs. Paco and I were digging around in the old family picture boxes again, and I spotted this gem. Here's a bad reproduction of a photo that was pretty low quality to begin with (instant camera). Still, it's the only known picture of yours truly and his beloved blue Superbird (taken in May of 1975, according to the date scribbled in pencil at the bottom).

And I probably would have been listening to one of my favorite tunes on - get this - my eight-track tape player. This song, for example...

Update  And I'm pretty sure that I'm holding a Flamenco Las Palmas cigar in my right hand.

  1. That looks like a sweet ride!

I'm going through a bunch of family photos, and putting them in binders for future generations to look at and wonder who the heck those people were ... ... thank God for label makers and archival photo pages.

But I have to ask ... you're right about the quality ... do you have long hair in that photo?

    1. Yep, shoulder-length. I can't tell from that blurry picture, but I was probably working on growing a beard and a mustache.

    2. We all looked like that back then. Mine was reddish brown and longer, like Jesus. So my boss in 1975 said, old Irishman who was drunk after lunch most days.

  2. Oh to be that young again. But only if we could keep all the experiences and wisdom accumulated over the years.

  3. Awesome!
Back when Mopar made race cars.
    I miss those days.

    1. I miss them, too. I think that was the year I went to a Led Zeppelin concert in Greensboro.

    2. Now I'm even more jealous. I was 14 when he died. I never saw them.

    3. I saw Led Zep in Sydney 1972, there's a lot of footage on Ytube.

But stadium rock was new and it got better later, so don't feel you missed out. I was more moved by other concerts, like Bowie's 1978 tour with American guitarist Adrian Belew (from Kentucky!) who blew me away live.

    4. My American hippy friend saw Jimi Hendrix live in the 60s. Then in the 1980s he took his kids to see Bon Jovi and said it 'reminded' him of the Hendrix concert, which would have been primitive in comparison. ('Huh?' I said).

There is no GOAT, because skill and equipment always improved. Building on the past.

  4. That car is straight out of a Jetsons cartoon.
Wow.... never seen anything like it.

    1. Wouldn't be surprised if it flew. And maybe talked.

    2. The Plymouth Superbird, and its cousin, the Dodge Daytona, were banned from NASCAR tracks after one season, I believe, because the drivers of other makes raised a clamor about the design providing an unfair advantage. I wish I had had the money to buy half a dozen and put them up on blocks, because the originals are worth a small fortune today.

  5. Daggum hippie!

I wonder what that car would be worth if you still had it now, in that condition. And was that really Petty blue, or what?
Oh, wait, was that the one you crashed?

    1. I think that's a darker blue than Petty blue. And yes, that's the one I crashed. Took six months to get it back. I sold it to the father of a friend who collected cars. I believe my friend, who I haven't had an opportunity to talk to in years, may still have it. I'd love to be able to drive it just one more time.

  6. Not sure it's darker, but if the picture color is accurate, more of a turquoise tint to it than Petty blue has.
Looked it up, and Petty blue was available as an option. The other blue was darker blue than yours looks like. And apparently all of'em had vinyl tops. I think they actually decided the vinyl tops made them more aerodynamic, like the dimples on a golf ball.
If I were you, I'd be looking for that friend. Maybe your dream could come true.
