"'Billion-Dollar Ghost Town' Surrounds Under Armor Headquarters".
So far, the struggling apparel brand Under Armour remains the large anchor tenant at Baltimore Peninsula, with a new global headquarters. Much of the surrounding office and retail space has been built on speculation, with hopes that additional tenants will follow.
Seriously? You think Baltimore is actually a big draw for new business? But what about this?
The broader issue is that Baltimore City Hall remains under the control of radical leftist activists whose decade-long social justice experiment has backfired, igniting recent violent crime waves. The population in the metro area has plunged to a 100-year low as residents and businesses flee the crime-infested area.
I wouldn't live there on a bet, nor would I drive up for a day. Now, I know people who get hot under the collar when you criticize Baltimore and its insane city government and its spiking crime rate, and they'll tell you that there are places in Baltimore that are perfectly safe. Sure, just like there were places in the Byzantine empire that were safe from Turkish depredations, even though those places dwindled as the empire continued shrinking, finally disappearing completely. And even if you can talk your way around Baltimore's problems - it's still Maryland, a Democrat satrapy that, when it does manage to elect a Republican, coughs up a useless pustule like former governor Larry Hogan.
All those sharp investors putting money into a glass and steel ghost town. Don't ever let a banker convince you that he's smarter than you are. One of the things I learned from my 30-year career in banking is that bankers, both commercial and investment, tend to see themselves as super-macho financial gunslingers - as long as it's somebody else's money their they're using.
as long as it's somebody else's money their using.
ReplyDeleteSounds like they'd make good Socialists.
BTW, did you steal my illiterate proofreader?
Dang! I thought he was working mighty cheap.
DeleteThe only reason I would visit Baltimore is to see the tavern where Edgar Allen Poe was last sighted. It's still there. Maybe there's a plaque on the gutter where his body turned up.
